Elsa M’Bala (CA/DE), born in 1988 in Yaounde lives and works between Cameroon and Berlin. She studied Social Science in Munster before spending a few years traveling through Europe where she was introduced to various artistic spheres. She began performing as a singer-songwriter, musician and poet before venturing into sound art in 2010. Her work explores African and Cameroonian histories, archives and feminism through sonic experiments using the voice, acoustic instruments, analogue mediums, and digital technologies. Her practice also brings together creativity and local communities through cultural and pedagogical programmes and workshops she develops as an independent educator. Elsa M’Bala takes part as an artist and coach in the Curating Lab with Christine Eyene and Mo Laudi will perform as part of the Curating Lab Evening, 23.10 between 20:30-23:00. 

She has been featured in Sounds Like Her: Gender Sound Art and Sonic Culture, New Art Exchange, Nottingham (2017); Still unresolved and very much ongoing, Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix, London (2017). She has also performed at Ifa Gallery, Berlin (2019); Casino Luxembourg (2019), Centre d’Art Contemporain, Brétigny (2017) and more. Elsa M’bala was one of the incubator winners for Berlin Community Radio 2017 and had a regular radio show on the platform before it closed in 2019.
