Hans Roels (BE)

Glas (2018)

20 October ━ 16.00
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

Looking from the inside outwards, a moving soundscape is revealed that combines played and environmental sounds into a single, living soundtrack. With the sports hall as its backdrop and the running track as its playing area, Hans Roels creates an intermediate space - Glas - in which live composition, field recordings and instrumental improvisation merge seamlessly.

Hans Roels is a musician, researcher and composer. He studied the piano with the contemporary music specialist Claude Coppens and composition with Godfried-Willem Raes. He teaches live electronic music at Ghent conservatory, and led a pilot project on the same subject at the Municipal Academy in Deinze. He has researched creation processes in contemporary composition, earning a doctorate in the arts in 2014. He is currently conducting artistic research into composition for specific locations for the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.
