Signaux, music for 35 fog horns (2015)

20 October ━ 20.00
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

A poetic intervention in the open air, in which the composer Heleen van Haegenborgh makes music at 120 dB for a piano and 35 fog horns. She came across Raoul de La Roche Aymon, a collector of fog horns, on YouTube. She chose 35 of them - covering two octaves - and worked with the Frenchman to build a keyboard that would operate the horns. Intended to cover long distances at sea, the sound of a ship’s horn only takes shape several hundred metres away. Sound waves collide, echo and merge into a single, powerful orchestra that resounds around the canals of Limburg. Signals from far away echo deep within.
