Woodpeckers (2018)

OORtreders expo 19 ━ 21 October
Klankenbos, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

Hidden in and around Klankenbos are android birds programmed to work as musical instruments. They react to digital waves (i.e. mobile phone and WiFi signals), drumming up all kinds of elements from their immediate surroundings, from steel lamp posts to fallen trees. The result is a sound environment in the form of an automatically generated acoustic composition in a state of constant evolution and variation. Just imagine: an infinite soundscape that plays with resonances from the surrounding architecture, like a drum ensemble appearing out of nowhere that adds beats and overtones to the space.
