Nazanin Fakoor & Swara Ensemble - Rainbow

Sat 24 Oct 2020 - 09:00 to Sun 25 Oct 2020 - 17:00
CC Palethe, Jeugdlaan 2, 3900 Overpelt

In the live performance/installation Rainbow, the artist Nazanin Fakoor takes on The Conference of the Birds, a literary masterpiece by the Persian mystic poet Farid ud-Din Attar. This beautiful poetry provides the basis for the libretto of Rainbow, with new music composed by Aftab Darvishi for the Swara Ensemble. The immersive installation -literally- reflects our differences and multiple identities. In this way, Fakoor reflects on the myth of a clear-cut national identity and the celebration of difference.

Nazanin Fakoor (IR) was born in Teheran and grew up in Germany, where she studied theatre arts at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich. She continued her education at Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris and subsequently studied scenography at the La Cambre School of Visual Arts in Brussels. Her studies ultimately led her to the border between theatre, literature and the visual arts. In 2004 she met the American avant-garde director Robert Wilson, who introduced her to his artistic laboratory in New York, where they worked in a similarly integrated manner: photography, performance, video, choreography, sound and light influence one another, as partial fragments of modern (visual) art. During her various assistantships in theatres and opera houses such as the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich and the Operahouse De Munt in Brussels, she has had the opportunity to work with Zhang Huang, Anish Kapoor, Pierre Audi, Robert Lepage, etc. Her recent creations include the performance installation Totalitaria - A Fantastic Journey and the installations The Flower, Light Drawing and The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth, which were shown in Belgium, Germany, France and the United States. Light Drawing has been purchased for the collection of M HKA museum for contemporary art in Antwerp in 2018.
