Pauline Mikó - PLUIES (cancelled)

Sat 24 Oct 2020 - 15:00 to 23:00
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Pelt

In PLUIES, the Belgian-Hungarian artist Pauline Mikó makes music with plants, a mix between nature and technology. In this way she aims to strengthen the relationship between plants, nature and human beings. Through a system of sensors and electrodes connected to the leaves of living plants and the body of the artist, the bio-electric exchange set up is transformed into sounds, thanks to a modular synthesizer. The sound waves are then modulated to produce music, both for the ears of the spectators but also for the plants themselves.

By mixing nature and technology, Pauline Mikó offers us an original and sensory experience. The artist tries to give back a legitimate place to plants in our urban lives. By enhancing our connection to our environment, the idea is to understand its fragility and the importance of respecting it. The main intention of the artist is to put organic life back at the center of attention by allowing for a dialogue with nature.

Pauline Mikó (BE/HO) uses various media in her performative and photographic projects. She constantly questions our relationship with the environment, the soil, the mineral and the living. In 2010, with Oh My Garden, she organized about thirty concerts in gardens, inviting the neighbors of a district to meet in the private space of an exiguous city garden. In 2013, she began A Project for Later, a long-term art piece on Memory, Territory and Time by burying Time Capsules around the world; aimed to stay ten years underground. Her recent sonic project PLUIES is the logical continuation of her sensitive research about temporality and the human relationship with the environment. She has performed internationally in various venues including art galleries and botanical gardens.

This performance is part of the parcours program which takes place on saturday 24.10 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof and will be performed three times between 15:00 and 23:30.
