Piotr Tolmachov - Collapsing Radioforce Mantras (cancelled)

Sat 24 Oct 2020 - 15:00 to 23:30
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Pelt

Collapsing Radioforce Mantras centres on exploring the hypnotic side of various voice communications between flight operation officers and pilots of US & EU strategic reconnaissance aircrafts like TR-1(U-2), SR-71 Blackbird etc. It is based on unique tape recordings that were made between 1988 and 1989 at USSR Air Defence Forces stationed near Oranienbaum, Saint Petersburg. They belonged to a subculture that was never exposed to the public; hence abandoned, forgotten, unknown. They repeat their call signs, encoded coordinates, messages over and over again on a daily basis through the years; becoming polished and fluid.

Sound Artist Piotr Tolmachov (BY/BE) originates from Belarus but has resided in Antwerp for over a decade. Having graduated with a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence Systems from the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, he also studied Sound Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In his works he explores elusive borders where spontaneous emergence of order occurs out of seeming chaos, by means of sound media. Striking is his algorithmic and kinetic approach to create hypnotic, continuously evolving sound structures that move throughout the space.

This sound performance is part of the Listening Program curated by Dominik ‘t Jolle as part of the parcours programme which takes place on saturday 24.10 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof and will be performed three times between 15:00 and 23:30.
