Razen (cancelled)

Sat 24 Oct 2020 - 15:00 to 23:00
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

Over the past ten years, the Brussels-based ensemble Razen has been forging a singular path that rethinks the idiom of minimalism and pushes it toward a higher plane; tapping the primal root, while pushing toward the future. Founded in 2010 as duo of Brecht Ameel and Kim Delcour, growing and contracting as an ensemble over the years, the band uses improvisation and the unique timbral and drone characteristics of string and wind instruments to sculpt landscapes of intuitive long tones that forge the gap between the trance-inducing roots of music and a forward-thinking vanguardism that seeks the intangible and unknown. Over the past year the group released two albums, both emblematic of the hybridity between psychedelic music, Early Music and contemporary spectral approaches that is so typical of Razen: Ayîk Adhîsta Adhîsta Ayîk, a meditation on the writings of CG Jung and Robot Brujo, a record that seeks to combine notions of witchcraft and robotism into a general broadening of consciousness. They will perform as a quartet consisting of Paul Garriau (hurdy gurdy), Berlinde Deman (serpent), Kim Delcour (shawm, bagpipes, single reed and bass recorder) and Brecht Ameel (harmonium and monochord).

This performance is part of the parcours program which takes place on saturday 24.10 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof and will be performed three times between 15:00 and 23:30.
