Thorsten Soltau - Refugium (cancelled)

Sat 24 Oct 2020 - 15:00 to 23:30
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Pelt

Refugium is an audio piece centered around the forest as a free zone during the shutdowns caused by the COVID19 pandemic. While metropoles and cities were closing down or limiting everyday life to a great extent or complete halt, nature was still a place allowed to be visited. The recordings used in this piece were taken in a nearby forest, mainly made at the inner core where walkers are absent. The calmness of the forest with the increased number of birds singing was captured and reassembled in a sort of soundtrack-like fashion. While the material has been obscured and treated, the three parts of the compositions are linked by nature and bird noises in variation. This was made in mirror to the increased number of nearby animal activities during the lockdown.

Thorsten Soltau (DE) has been composing since 2006, and has devoted his artistic work to conceptual frameworks and aural expressions from a variety of musical fields. His work incorporates elements from electroacoustic and electronic music underlined by stochastic or random additions. Composing from the perspective of an autodidact his music takes inspirations from a large number of influences, either historical research, nature or literature.

This soundpiece is part of the Listening Program curated by Dominik ‘t Jolle as part of the parcours programme which takes place on saturday 24.10 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof and will be performed three times between 15:00 and 23:30.
